Museum of Natural History

In my Washington D.C. trip, we went to many places such as museums, memorials, malls and more. The things that I liked the most were the museums because of their rich information and the way you learn by games and fun. The Museum of Natural History was built to inspire and teach people about nature and culture throughout collections and exhibitions. In the Museum, you are in a self-guided tour. Inside, you decide what rooms to go in and what to see. I believe that this Museum was built in the capital because it’s a place where everyone goes at least once in their life and it is a big city with lots of people that like to visit museums.

The building of the Museum of Natural History was build in a neoclassical architectural style meaning in a classical style. It was build in the same street as most of the Smithsonian Institution Museums in the National Mall. The Museum of Natural History was designed by Hornblower & Marshall. It took about 7 years to build the Museum. The Museum of Natural History was first opened to public on March 17, 1910 by the name of United States National Museum. Even though the Museum was already open to public in 1910, it was finished in 1911. Kenneth E. Behring donated $100 million to the museum $20 were designated to modernize it. The US Congress also contributed with some money.

In 1875 the Smithsonian Institution decided to expand their Natural History Facilities and that is when they decided to create a new building for the Museum of Natural History. In 1882 they decided they needed more space and they decided to make a new building. In 1903 architects submitted the plan. In 1905 the first stone was set.

When I saw this beautiful museum, a lot of things came through my mind. I was surprised by the amount of exhibitions and the huge variety of things that were in the museum. Something that I found particularly interesting was the Hope Diamond. I was impressed because when they told me I was going to have the chance to see the biggest diamond of the world I imagined a totally different thing. I learned really interesting, fun, and random facts about many different themes. Some things I already knew where related to the evolution of humans and about dinosaurs. I was surprised to find out that actually not all the bones exhibited in the Museum are the real ones.
I thought all the dinosaur was real but then they told me that most of the time only one or two of the bones are real bones, that the other ones are fake.
When I visited the Museum of Natural History I felt really exited and I was really confused because everything I saw was interesting and I couldn’t decide where to go first. I think that the style of the building is really nice and creative. I liked a lot the way things are organized and the way that you see the museum from the outside or from the main rotunda and it looks so little but when you enter a room you feel like if it will never end for its huge size. I hope everyone has a chance to visit Washington D.C. and mainly this Museum because I assure you will have a great time in it.
